MUSIC LEARNING MYTHS

Passive music listening will make your child smarter

In Music Together®, we limit our use of music recordings and use live singing and movements to stimulate your child's brains. They are invited to co-create lyrics and movements. By making music together, millions of brain neurons are fired and wired together, helping your child make connections to improve cognition, processes and sense of the world around.

My child is too young to learn music

You cannot be too young to learn music, but you can be too young to pick up instrument. At birth, a baby's sense of hearing is more developed than his vision, hence your child's ability to pick up sounds and music is more advanced than you imagine. However, he/ she may not respond the way that you may want him to - through physical response, playing or singing back to you. This may be common for some children, especially younger children, as they often cannot multitask and may only be in the mode of receiving, not creating performance or output.
Music Together® supports many early childhood education philosophies:

Montessori, Reggio Emilia & other early childhood school standards

WHAT IS MUSIC TOGETHER®?

A structured curriculum rooted in early childhood development Music Together®'s curriculum is a very structured programme delivered in an immersion environment that is very fun and playful.

The music is pitched in just the right range for children’s voices and includes songs, rhythmic chants, tonal and rhythm patterns, and instrumental play-alongs, all in a rich variety of tonalities and meters.

Original songs and arrangements by the program coauthors make these collections especially unique. Each of the nine Music Together® Song Collections also includes traditional american folk songs and chants, music from many other cultures, always including at least one song per collection in another language.

IS MUSIC TOGETHER FOR ME?

Take our questionnaire.

I believe that learning through play is important and they learn best in a stimulating and playful environment
Young children should have exposure to music at a young age
I am looking for a music curriculum that focuses on using songs with varying tonality, rhythm and music from different cultures
I, as your child’s main caregiver, am an important person to extend my child’s music education outside of school
I would like to receive some music education to facilitate my children’s musical journey
I think it is important to make up words or sounds in songs
It is fine with me if my child learns music without the need to pick up an instrument like piano or violin during the early childhood years
I prefer the suzuki method of formal music instrument learning (learning by hearing as opposed to learning by reading notes)

If you have more YES/TRUE than NO/NOT TRUE, Music Together®’s classes is more likely suited for you and your child.

TESTIMONIALS

Don’t take our word for it—hear what other happy Music Together® families have to say about MerryMamas music classes for kids!

My husband teases me because whenever I mention Music Together® to anyone, he always pipes up my next line which is ‘best money we ever spent.’ I truly mean it. Kudos to Ken and Lili for a program that outshines any other I have seen around!”

My daughter was a colicky baby who was difficult to soothe. Although she was held, rocked, crooned, and sung to constantly, nothing seemed to help . . . until the ‘Hello Song’ entered our lives. The ‘Hello Song’ could immediately stop crying spells, even if just for a short time, and other songs from the Tambourine collection had a similar effect! We were immediately hooked!!
